Hong Kong City Hall, Hong Kong, China| STR9® RGB
Every night in Hong Kong residents and visitors alike are treated to what the Guinness Book of World Records has named the “Largest Permanent Light and Sound Show” in the world. 44 key buildings both on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon are illuminated with lasers and colour changing lights. One of the oldest buildings to participate in the show is the Hong Kong City Hall. Also being one of the smallest buildings in the show, the City Hall’s light installation must be that much more spectacular to even be noticed among the metropolis of skyscrapers.
In Septemebr 2009, when the fixtures previously installed on the building needed to be replaced, only a luminaire which could provide output sufficient to keep the building visible among the 44 others in the Symphony of Light would be acceptable. GVA Lighting Inc.’s STR9® RGB was perfect for the job. The STR9® RGB’s high lumen output ensures that the City Hall remains highly visible, while its color changing ability and 300mm addressability allow for smooth dynamic color effects. Installed on the exterior of the building, at the bottom of each window, the luminaires project upwards, illuminating each window frame and colorizing the entire building facade. STR9® RGBs are also installed in the building interior, in the stairwell, illuminating each flight for added effect.
