The Pagoda, Reading, USA | IP-SF-3
The Reading Pagoda, a 72-ft. tall Japanese style brick and tile building on Mount Penn, sits 886 feet above the city of Reading, PA and is the main landmark for the area. The five story pagoda was built in 1908 and in 2006 Mayor Thomas McMahon decided to renovate the Pagoda for its 100 year anniversary. The original lighting that accented the Pagoda was incandescent lamps. Sometime in the 60’s-70’s these lamps were changed to red neon. The red neon outlined the building for many years. However, this required extensive annual maintenance and the power consumption was high. Both of these factors contributed to very costly annual operating expenditures for the City of Reading. Then in 2007, the city began investigating the use of LEDs to replace the outdated neon. GVA Lighting, Inc. supplied 4,860 IP-SF with Red LEDs and 2,460 IP-SF with 5000K White LEDs for the project. To match the structure of the Pagoda, the Custom IP-SF bodies were made of brown plastic and black epoxy. Special lead requirements were also accommodated. credit to: Kautter & Kelley Architects, Independence Lighting; Sales Agent
