Royal Ontario Museum / Toronto / Canada STR9© Mono
The Royal Ontario Museum (The ROM) in Toronto, Canada is one of the world’s leading museums exhibiting both natural history and world cultures. Established in 1914 and recently expanded to the tune of $270 million dollars, the building offers a unique blend of classic and contemporary architecture.
To highlight some of the architectural features of the older masonry building, The ROM turned to a contemporary lighting solution. STR9®Linear LED Luminaires from GVA Lighting are used to provide dramatic highlights on the stone window arches of the top floor.
The STR9® is an ideal luminaire for the application for three reasons: The high brightness LEDs ensure a very visible and dramatic effect on the building’s masonry. The luminaire consumes low amounts of energy relative to conventional light sources. And STR9® is very low maintenance and has a projected lifetime of 50,000hrs (B50, L70), perfect for difficult to access locations, as such.
